The Auto Mechanics program consists of classroom and hands-on instruction, and job shadowing designed to develop the basic automotive skills necessary to enter the automotive workforce.

Curriculum and instruction conforms to the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) guidelines, and prepare students to take the ASE certification tests. Instruction will be provided at Northwest Career Center’s ASE certified labs and will be provided by ASE certified master technicians. Textbook, tools and materials are included in the cost. 

Students will learn valuable skills in the ASE Certification areas of:

Brakes

This segment provides instruction in brake repair and service of drum brakes, disc brakes, and ABS systems.

Suspension and Steering

Topics of instruction include suspension systems, alignment technology, tire balancing

Engine Performance

Students will learn the basic skills of engine testing, diagnosis, and overhaul procedures and will gain an understanding of the internal combustion engine, engine construction, engine operation, and the proper maintenance and repair procedures of an engine.

Electrical Systems/Electronics

Students will learn the basics of electricity and its relationship to electrical automotive components as well as the construction and operation of batteries, alternators and starters, and the procedures used to diagnose the various electrical systems of an automobile.

AC/Heat

Students will gain an understanding of the heating and cooling system and have an opportunity to obtain an ASE Air Conditioning license.
