Web Resources

The buttons above will provide web listings for resume, employment and financial aid resources. If you want to research more information, try some different major search engines, metasearch engines and subject directories.

See the tables below for how these search engines work, as well as some websites to explore.

Major Search Engines

Major search engines use software programs that visit websites and index the information.
These search engines have millions and even billions of pages in their databases. Content of these websites are not analyzed for accuracy. The information is only compiled and listed by software programs called "spiders."

yahoo.com

MetaSearch Engines

These sites that will take your search request and send it to multiple search engines. Example: Dogpile.com utilizes Google, Yahoo, Ask and MSN search engines to return you search results. Some of these sites also help you refine your search with further search suggestions.

Subject Directories

Subject directories don't use software to create their database of websites. People decide which websites should be in the database and how the site is displayed in search properties.

Directories also place website information in categories. You might see categories such as Arts, Business, Science, Sports, etc. You can still type information into search boxes to specifically search by keywords.

More academic searches can be found in websites such as Librarians' Index (lii.org) or Academic Info (academicinfo.net). Librarians' Index is compiled by public librarians, and Academic Info is geared for undergraduate student.
